Hello new performing arts graduate!! So all of a sudden, you find yourself out in the real world. Your classmates are busy, there are no more deadlines, no more classes and your tutors have moved onto the next set of students. Suddenly, there's no real reason to leave your apartment.
I got the best piece of advice from one of our lecturers in the last week of drama school. She said "Find a reason to get out of bed. If you haven't already - start doing something now and the day after you've graduated, continue it." (Bless you, Jean!)
Jean's advice was gold. Fortunately, I'd already started researching and written to about 50 talent agents and I was also mid-way through a visa application. So on the morning after graduation, I got up, had breakfast and flipped open the laptop and carried on right where I had left off. I also snuck into a practice room at school and sang for a bit after lunch.
In many ways, it didn't matter WHAT I was doing. What mattered was that I was doing something. I was sowing the seeds for the future. I was being deliberate. I was making my own luck. I was taking tiny steps forwards. I was staying motivated.
